17th Open House Slovenia Festival
This year’s program, selected from numerous submissions, was curated by an expert jury composed of prominent architectural professionals: Matjaž Bolčina (ARP studio), Katja Cimperman (studio abiro), Ana Kosi (KIP), and Uroš Rustja (Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, VOID architecture).
Among the selected projects are four buildings located outside Slovenia, all designed by Slovenian authors. In addition to three projects in Trieste, one is situated in Croatia, in Istria. This is Villa Porta no, located in the historic center of Bale. The renovation and interior design project was led by Slovenian architect Dr. Nina Levičnik, and it is conceived as a multifunctional residential building that combines private living spaces, accommodation units, and areas for social gatherings.
The choice of location stemmed from the desire of the investors—a Slovenian-Croatian couple—for a stone house with a garden and active involvement in the local community. These guidelines were realized in the setting of Bale. The building spans four floors, with a total area of approximately 280 m², representing a successful synthesis of revitalized architectural heritage and contemporary living concepts.
Villa Porta no will be open to visitors on Sunday, April 19, starting at 12:00 PM. Participation in organized tours and guided visits requires prior registration, available from April 8 via the official OHS festival website.
